Having taken the trouble to develop meaningful content for your website is a great step in the right direction. But how do you get people to go to your website to read it?
In a previous article we discussed how to create valuable content that your website audience would find useful, and therefore return to again and again. You may want to review this information before reading on.

People are not just going to find your content by chance. You have to do something in order for this to happen. You can throw money at it and get search engines and social media platforms to advertise it for you, but this could end up getting very costly. There are a number of alternative ways of doing this at a much lower cost, and here are a few of them:
As soon as you have developed a content piece and placed it on your website, send an email to your contacts and tell them about it. Don’t make the email a sales focused advertising piece. This will turn many of your clients off the whole communication. Rather tell them about the benefits of reading your new content. Make it clear what is in it for them and then provide a link directly to the article – not to your Home page. Also, make the email personal and use their name so that they know you were thinking of them.
If you are active on social media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or some other platform, place an update that points to your new content. You can easily do so in the status update section. As with email communication you need to make it clear what the benefit is for each person to visit. Just placing the link is not good enough. You may have to repeat this a few times, highlighting a different benefit each time.
As part of your social media strategy, make a point of identifying interest groups that would represent your target market. Then join these groups and start sharing the valuable content on your website. Don’t sell to them, but set yourself up as a caring member of the community who is willing to share expert insider information.
Prepare a flyer on your computer where you highlight the topic of your content piece and the benefits of having insight around it. Then insert a QR code with a link to the article on your website. When someone scans the QR code, they are then taken straight to your article. The benefit of doing this is that you can hand out these flyers in place of your business card to people you meet. As soon as you have new content on your website, prepare a new flyer.

Attend business networking events and start making contacts there. Do not qualify the people you meet or go into sales mode. Display an interest in the people you meet and give them one of your flyers. Get their details and start telling them via email about the content that you have just placed on your website.
